ceramics

Theresa had been eyeing pieces of pottery for a few years before she began working in ceramics. In 2013, she started taking six week community courses offered at Kentucky Mudworks in Lexington, Kentucky. Inspired by her favorite teacher, Melisa Zimmerman, she saw a glimpse of what was possible in the realm of color, design, and clay. The move to Durango, Colorado in 2016 brought a pause in her making, but soon she found an avenue to continue by renting studio space at Yunomi Studio and had occasional guidance from Chyako Hashimoto, another inspiration in the field. Due to some hiatus of studio availability, in 2018 Theresa eventually obtained her own wheel and subsequently a kiln and began working out of her garage. Her designs have evolved over the years as new tools and techniques have been discovered, but be assured this pop of color and draw to nature has always been part of the journey.
